| Patsy Gann Lawson 16 Glenview Lufkin, TX 75901-7209 (936) 637-2454 What I have been doing for the last 45 years? I could write a book! In fact that’s just what I am doing! In response to having been told that I should, I am writing my autobiography. If all goes as planned I will have my first draft completed soon. But we know “life is what happens to you while making other plans!” I’ve had my share of “plans going awry” as most of us have, I’m sure. I have been widowed for 16 years with no prospect of remarriage in the near future. It seems that every time I become interested in someone, or they do me, they run right past me straight into the arms of another woman! Oh well-such is life! But it can be exciting even as a single. I believe in having fun in a clean way! Some of my favorite memories of growing up in Channelview are the many visits to the San Jacinto Monument, and riding the ferry to get there. Another was going through the Washburn Tunnel in a yellow convertible with the top down. With 4 children and 7 grandchildren, my life has been rich and full. Church and social activities keep me busy, along with flower gardening, creating silk floral arrangements, and working out at the gym. I am also a Skin Care and Image Consultant, and I enjoy helping women to enhance their appearance. |

My new wife had 4 children, but just one was still at home, attending REL. I left Sears and worked for Gulf Oil from 1966 to 1976. Then, just shy of being vested, I left to Okirane (Arco Chemical) at the Bayport plant. Started dating widow of a former priest at Trinity Episcopal in August 1998. We married on November 15th of last year. We are having a wonderful time being together and traveling a lot. We both love going to the theater, church activities, elder hostels and enjoying our retirement. I am busier now than I ever was while working. Combined we have 5 grown children (3 for Donna – 2 for me) and 12 grandchildren. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| In addition I am Area Coordinator for Reach to Recovery, a group of trained breast cancer survivors who volunteer with the American Cancer Society. All that, plus I have moved 29 times! I think, though, I’m going to stay put here in beautiful East Texas. I have no intention of slowing down for the next 45 years either! I’ll see you at that reunion! After all we’re not getting older, we’re just getting better! |

| Annette Giddings Hollis (Hugh) 4589 Hinton Dr. Plano, TX 75024 (972) 491-0482 aghtx@msn.com In 1994 my husband, Hugh, and I retired. He had worked for many years as a credit manager for Texas Instruments, and I had my own word processing business. We moved from Lubbock to Plano to be near our three children: Janice, Charles, and Lynn. Our family now includes four of the “smartest and most adorable grandchildren in the whole world”: Kaelyn (5), Kiera (3), Ryan (3), and Spencer (1), whom we see often. For the past decade, I have been on a treasure hunt, beginning with the receipt of a small group of letters written by my great great grandfather, John James Giddings, and his five brothers who immigrated to Texas in the mid-1800s. Queries to find more missives followed. These letters, I thought, read like a wild yarn told by a grizzled boatman around a campfire-- tales of Indian warfare, lost fortunes, killer epidemics, saloon shootout, colorful personalities, plotting and scheming. Letter collecting became a joyful obsession as I networked through the family finding people with large bodies of work. Since retirement, Hugh and I have retraced the brothers’ footsteps from their boyhood home at the foot of Moosic Mountain in northeastern Pennsylvania to Texas to Civil War battlefields in northeastern Arkansas to the site of an Apache massacre in Stein’s Peak, New Mexico. We have stalked the brothers in archives, libraries, and courthouses across the state, reconstructing the work they took for granted. With encouragement from friends to do something with this vast assemblage of letters and information, I started looking for a historian well versed in nineteenth-century Texas history and eventually gained the support of Dr. J.A. Wilson. Doing research under his guidance has given me an appreciation of the breadth, depth, and richness of Texas history. Wilson and I have a manuscript in progress. It is a story about life, its sorrows and laughter, during the era of early statehood, Civil War, and Reconstruction. None of this would be possible, of course, without the support I have received from my family who let me walk in the past while they walk in the present. I’ve also found rewarding my years of working as a volunteer with HOSTS (Help One Student To Succeed), a program of the Plano ISD. In my spare time, I’m usually cross-stitching. |
