After graduation, I went to work at the First National Bank in Baytown, while attending Lee College.  At that time I never gave a thought to a career, but as it turned out, that is what banking became.  In 1955 I married classmate Charles Hill.  We had 2 children, Karen and Keith.  Karen graduated from the University of Texas and went to work for State Farm Insurance.  She is the regional Personnel manager of the northern division of State Farm in Dallas.  Her husband Michael is a graduate of A&M University.  He is a nuclear engineer and works for the U.S. Government in th4 Nuclear Regulatory Agency.  They have 2 boys, Stephen (9), and Andrew (3).  Keith went to TSTI and got an Associates degree in Instrumentation  He works for Lyondell Chemical Co.  His wife Cyndi owns her own specialty company.  They have 3 girls, Jamie (13), Alexandria (7), and Raegen (4).  They live in Baytown.  Charles retired for Arco Chemical in 1985.  He died in 1986.  In 1958, I went to work at Peoples State Bank, which became nations Bank and is now Bank of America.  I worked in every department of the bank, and in 1971, I was made an officer.  I retired in 1991 after 34 years as a Vice-President.  In 1990 I remarried another Baytown native, Buddy Barber.  He works for Mathere’s Office Supply. He has 2 children, Michele and Tate.  Michele graduated for the University of Texas and is a teacher.  She and her husband Brian have a littly boy Tyler, 2.  Tate is also a graduate of the University of Texas and works for State Farm Insurance Co.  his wife Kathryn is a social worker.  They live in
Darlene Hillin Callahan (Mike) Grand B Drive Hot Springs, ARK 71913 (501)760-2242  callahanmike@sbcglobal.net
After graduation from the University of Arkansas in 1959 with a BS degree in education, married Mike Callahan from Hot Springs, Ark.  Mike’s job with Citgo Oil Co. required us to move many times.  We left Arkansas for Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Louisiana (where I taught junior high and high school in Shreveport).  We then moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana.  From there we transferred to the Dallas/fort Worth area. I took refresher courses and worked as a legal administrative assistant for 11 years.  In 1992 we moved back to Arkansas and retired in Hot Springs on Lake Hamilton.  Mike became a county appraiser, but will retire again in May.
In 1980 I confused family and old friends by deciding to use the name on my birth certificate (Doris Marlene) and have been called “Marlene” ever since, except when with old friends and former classmates.
We have two sons whose ages are 38 and 33.  Both are married and we have three grand daughters ranging in age from three years to eight months and living in Indianapolis and Dallas.
We still ski in the winter and enjoy snorkeling and boating in the summer.  Since Hot Springs is a resort/retirement community there are many places to dance and we love to dance to the music of the 50’s and 60’s.  For the past four years I have attended aerobic classes 3 mornings a week.
Looking forward to another trip down memory lane!  Our reunions have always be great….thanks to the effort and hard work of the Reunion Committee.
2004 Update: Thanks to the hard work of our Reunion Committee we have another opportunity to travel down
Dallas and have no children.
Buddy is not retired, but we are making plans.  We bought a home in new Braunfels and hope to move there.  We love the Hill Country and we go there every weekend.  Since retiring, I love not having to dress and put on make-up every day.  I work in the yard,, which has been awarded “Yard of the Month” 3 times in our subdivision.  I enjoy reading and traveling and trying to learn to play golf.
2004:  Five years ago Buddy & I had 6 grandchildren.  We now have 10.  Daughter Michele & husband Brian, have another son, Trevor & a long awaited daughter, Jennifer.  They still live in Austin.  Son Tate & wife Kathryn now have a son, Callam, and a daughter, Constance.  Tate is a State Farm Agent in Carthage, Texas.
Buddy is now retired and we hope to be spending more time in New Braunfels.  Looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion and really enjoyed planning it with so many willing & helpful classmates.  They are the reason why this 50th is going to be so great!!
“memory lane”.  There are so many wonderful memories….the Band, the Brigadiers, sport activities, dances at the community center and the Quack Shack.  How Fortunate we were!!
Mike and I have been married for 45 years.  Our two sons and families live in Rockwall, TX and Nashville, TN.  Our grandchildren are 4, 5, 6 and 7 years old.  We retired to Hot Springs in 1992 after job locations in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, New York, Florida, and Texas through the years.  We really enjoy lake living and all of its water activities.  We snow ski in Colorado every year and travel.  Many of the trips are with friends from Mike’s high school years.  In January we made our 4th trip into Yellowstone on snowmobiles, which was very special because the government is closing the park to snowmobile travel.
     Looking forward to seeing everyone!!

still actively listing and selling, but just this year I have been considering what it would be like to retire.  I work with wonderful people, who are close friends, and many of my past and present clients have become good friends.  I think I am a little scared of change and wonder what it would be like not to work. (Probably wonderful!)
I love to travel and have been fortunate to get to take some great vacations.  My favorite vacations are cruises, I guess, although I like to go just about anywhere on land also.  I have season tickets to the Broadway series, Theatre Under the Stars, the Alley Theatre and The Houston Symphony Pops.  Music is one of my loves.  I am also active in my church - St. Luke's United Methodist in Houston.
When I retire I will get busy with volunteer work - probably with children or the elderly because there is so much need in those areas.
My Mother died in 2002, but my Dad will be 95 on June 26, 2004, and we will have a celebration with my daughter, Sherri, who lives in Austin and my granddaughter, Lindsey, who just finished her freshman year at T.C.U. in Fort Worth.  Daddy is in good health and remains very active in his church, bridge playing, lunches and bingo games.  He has a beautiful yard that he takes care of himself - really quite amazing.
I am looking forward to our 50th reunion.  I just don't know how we all got this old so fast.  Hope we have a 60th!
