Bend County and I am currently serving on a Special Commissioners Court of Ft. Bend County.
Bob Beal, 2202 Deerfield Wood, San Antonio, TX 78248, 210.493.6890 rjb2eal@gmail.com  (ED: Bob was with us at Ashble Smith, Anson Jones and Horace Mann.)
What fun to browse thru these old photos and see the faces/names from my ancient past. I had not discovered them until your message today. I nearly gave up before finding my on pics on page 12. I would have been in Ms Linden's Ashbel Smith 3rd grade class photo
been in Ms Linden's Ashbel Smith 3rd grade class photo had I not joined the group @ mid-year. I am in Ms Royder's 4th grade class, #1 on the 2nd row and Ms West's Anson Jones 5th grade, #10 on the bottom row. Page 13 has me @ HMJH in Ms Moore's 7th grade, bottom row #9 and Slick Ellis' 8th grade, bottom row #4. It was at HM that I developed a lifetime love of tennis, thanks to Leo LaBorde. I would later encounter some of his more serious disciples. Paul Wilkins, Rex Reed and other Ganders played tennis for A&M. Incidentally, my friend, Herb Gray (REL) tells me coach George Perkins, a few years ago, was operating a tube rental service on the Guadalupe river downstream of Canyon dam. He must be about 85 or 90 by now.
I completed HMJH with our class before my family moved to Cedar Bayou where I graduated in '54. That Fall I enrolled @ Texas A&M, Division of Architecture. Eventually I chose the Construction Science option.  Dropped out of A&M for the spring '58 semester and on 3/8/58 married my CBHS sweetheart, Bobbie June Carroll ('55). She worked at the Exxon (Humble) refinery so we rented an apartment in "Old Baytown." We moved to College Station in September '58 to finish my degree. My grades improved remarkably.
An Aggie cadet, I was commissioned 2nd Lt USAF @ graduation in January '60. We moved to Houston where I worked briefly for W.S. Bellows Construction Company. Reported for active duty in March at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio and three months later, moved on to Holloman AFB, New Mexico, near Alamogordo. I worked for the Base Civil Engineering organization as a design engineer.
Our three-year hitch was a fun, no sweat time in our life and a pleasant relief from the books. It was a tempting career. Paige, our first daughter, was born 10/14/61 in the base hospital. We lived on base and made friends from many parts of the country. We still have contact with several, after more than 40 years.
Before discharge as 1st Lt in March '63, we had determined we wanted to live in Austin, Texas. Austin was a beautiful little city in the early '60s and a great place to live. "Job" was secondary, we thought at the time. I took a job with a small construction company. Pamela, our second daughter, was born 11/21/63 and by late '67 I had determined where I lived was much less important than my work.
I took a job with the H.B. Zachry Company and we moved to San Antonio in December '67. Zachry was (is) a large, diverse, international constructor with headquarters in SA. Annual revenue of the company was about $600 million in '67 and by Y2K, about $2 billion. It was an interesting & challenging career. I traveled to many parts of the world; was involved in many significant projects and worked & interacted with some very interesting people. Ultimately, I was promoted to Vice President/Chief Estimator and served on the company's Operating Committee.
Health issues forced my retirement 1/99 after 31 years with Zachry. Within two months I was in Methodist Hospital CICU, San Antonio. My critical condition was described as "end stage congestive heart failure." God performed a miracle for me on 3/19/99. I received a new heart transplanted from a young woman who had been involved in a fatal auto crash. I am indeed blessed, thank God.
Paige, our oldest daughter, is an attorney here in San Antonio and the mother of our only two grandchildren.  Pamela, our youngest, has lived in Dallas since '86. She is a financial analyst in the Dallas office of a commercial bank headquartered in the Netherlands. She loves that city.
June and I celebrated our 47th anniversary on 3/8/05. We've lived in San Antonio for 38 years. Church, friends, and family, especially grandkids, are our main focus now, with a little time for fishing but no more tennis. More than six years have passed since the transplant and I'm doing great. God is truly good.
Thanks for use of the REL'54 web page. You've done an excellent job putting it together.
Barbara Bishop Carr  1204 Memorial Dr. Baytown, TX, 77520 281-422-0206
Summer  of ‘54 went  to Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX.   In April of ‘55 married Jim Carr of Baytown (my roommate’s brother).  We have 4 children: Connie ‘56,
Edwin, ‘57, Keri, ‘61, and Danny, ‘65.  We now have 8 grandchildren.  I must say the children and grandchildren are the joy of my life.  I worked most of the last 25 years.  My last two jobs were eight years with United Parcel Service and seven years with Foleys in the Cosmetic & Fragrance Department.  Jim  retired in  February of 1992 and so did I.  We bought a little house  with 2 acres in Wimberley, TX.  In May of 1992 we moved there and have been remodeling
ever since.  I spend  a lot of my time in my yard.  I find it very good therapy and very  rewarding.  We also make a lot of trips back to Baytown where all the children and grandchildren are.  I also see after my mother, who still lives alone. (Her idea! not mine)  We also enjoy the get together dinners of the Class of ‘54.  This is the greatest bunch of people on earth.  I feel as if they are my extended family. (Barbara's husband, Jim, passed away about 2 years ago.)
Margaret Blasingame Davidson 503 Garden Way Lane, Pasadena, TX 77503 (713)473-1058  media@fbp.org 2004: After high school went to Sam Houston State-majored in music (piano).  Graduated in 1957.  Back to Goose Creek ISD at my dear ole Anson Jones and taught music.  Married Joe Davidson, from Alvin, in 1957.

In 1961 we moved to Pasadena after 2 years in the Army.  I substituted in Deer Park ISD for 13 years.  Taught piano and have been organist at First Baptist, Pasadena, since 1973.  They are still putting up with me and I also work in the music department at church.
Have three children: Lisa in Pasadena with 3 children, Karen in Midland with 3 boys and Daryl and wife Virginia, with 2 children.  Also have a great grandchild.
As I’ve said before, one of the greatest events for me
was being chosen Queen of the Brigadier Ball WOW!    There were many memories from our year-State Football Playoffs-Quack Shack-Choir and many special friends.  Many of those did not make it to this great “50th” reunion.  Again I wish young people today and these past 50 years, had even half as many special memories as out great Class of 1954!

2004 Update:  My husband and best friend. J.R., passed away Nov. 29, 2003, suddenly with a massive heart attack.  Since then, I’m trying to stay extra busy and travel all over the state to be with children and grandchildren.  It was such a blessing to hear from so many of you with whom I had lost contact over the years.  Memories are precious!
Memories from REL days:  I loved being in the Lee Band, long football game trips, "Dull Razor Blues", and the band trip to Mississippi to play (in our Confederate uniforms) for the Sons of the Confederate Veterans Reunion Convention. I also have special memories as editor of The Gander Gazette my senior year.
Then I went back to REL in ’61 and taught English, journalism, yearbook and newspaper in that same journalism room where I had spent so many busy hours.
