I married August 13,1954 to Claude L. Shippey of La Porte. We lived in Alamogordo for fifteen months as he was in the Army and stationed at the White Sands Proving Grounds.  When he was discharged from the Army, we moved back to La Porte.  We have 3 children and six grandchildren-ages 5 to 20 years old.  I worked some in the school cafeteria and the Bayshore Church Day Care where we are members.  Most of the time, I stayed home to raise my children and was always there when they were home. I now am the assistant manager of the Houston International Seafarers’’ Center Barbours Cut Branch.  I have been a volunteer and part time salaried for 8 years.  I have been the media director of my church for several years.  I am also the secretary for the three year old Sunday School class and I am in the choir.  I was a teacher in the first grade class for several years and was the Women’s Missionary Union director in my church for 4 years. I have been an Association officer of the San Jacinto Association of Baptist churches in the Baytown area.  I am in good health and enjoy life.  I praise the Lord for that.
2004 Update:  Along with our 3 children and 6 grandchildren we now have 4 great grandchildren.
We are both retired.  I am active in the LaPorte Neighborhood Center, Inc. as an advisory Board Director & volunteer.  I am an officer in the LaPorte Interchurch Council.  I am an ambassador of the Chamber of

I've married three times. Each time my bride was younger than the one before. Could this have been my problem with long term relationships?  All of my children live in Texas and each of their
marriages has produced two beautiful children.  And I continue to have friendly relations with all my exeses who all live in Texas.
I retired in '91 after serving 32 total yrs. as teacher, counselor, and principal.
Am spending much time with Mom who still lives on Virginia St. You may remember that I attended San Jacinto Elem. and became principal, and was there when it burned and the new Bldg. was built.
And just a reminder--I was in the class of 54 when I had
polio at the age of 12,and stayed out while receiving therapy. I appreciate your invite to the Class of '54 Reunion.  Let me know if I can help on the 50th Reunion.

My eldest son works at Exxon- Mt. Belview.  Middle son is in Medina working for the Bandera Elec. CoOp.. Youngest, my daughter is a practicing Mom, Wife, and part time physical therapist.

2004 Update: What happened to the last five years? The count of grandchildren keeps going up.  I still spend my days checking on the business and then taking care of my cattle.  The cattle count (like the kids) keeps changing.  We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion.

Graduated from University of Texas with a degree in Chemical Engineering.  I began working for Diamond Shamrock in Houston.  I worked for Diamond for 20 years at several locations including Cleveland, OH., Mexico City, Delaware and New Jersey.  During this time I stayed in Houston long enough to marry Diane Burton.  After 20 years with Diamond, I returned to Houston as President of a small privately owned company.  In 1982, 4 years later, I joined Engelhard Corp. and lived in Milledgeville, GA for six years.  Then I moved back to New Jersey where I continued with Engelhard as a Group Vice President until I retired in 1996.  Three months later I went back to work as Executive Director of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AICHE), a professional society representing 57,000 members.  Diane and I still live in New Jersey.  My office is in New York City.  Our son jerry lives in Austin and our daughter is a senior at New York University, majoring in Musical Theater.  Our future retirement plans include both Austin and New Jersey but no definite date yet.
on the final exam, but later agreed to marry me in 1961.  Beginning in 1959, I coached and taught in school districts of Mathis, London, Clarkwood and Corpus Christi.  The last years of my career were spent as a school administrator and owner of my own business, Driver Education Associates.  “Early” retirement was taken in 1994 and I had four good years of golf and freedom until my wife retired in 1998 after 38 years as a teacher and administrator in Corpus Christi ISD.  Our greatest joy was raising 2 wonderful children.  Both are
Texas A&M graduates.  Our son Kyle has been a golf professional at Barton Creek Resort (Austin),
Pinehurst Resort (NC), and is currently at Gleneagles Country Club in Plano.  Our daughter Kim is with an advertising company in Corpus Christi.  No grandchildren yet, but looking forward to the day!  I enjoy golfing, fishing, cooking, walking the dog, and traveling.  A highlight of my golf hobby was attained in June when I worked at the 1999 U.S. Open at Pinehurst Country Club & Resort.
2004: All the same except now have 3 grandchildren: Dylan, 1 year old, Jason, 2 years old, Austin, 4 years old.  My daughter, Kim, has her hands full with Austin and moving into a new house.  Been married to Sheri for 43 years. Sheri and I will be moving to a new home, also, in June so address will change.
My son Kyle and I will go to the Master Golf tournament this year and play a few rounds somewhere.
Update 2003: My wife Diane and I are still living in New Jersey with a second home in Austin. Our son lives in Austin and our daughter in NYC.
Retired from the AIChE position in 2001 and have remained active. I have been to Honduras three times with a church mission group, taught a course at the University of Virginia (Spring, 2003), and am still an active gardener, golfing more, and have started running 5K's. Our plans are to spend more time in Austin, but it gets so hot there in the
summer - just getting soft, I guess.
Looking forward to being at the reunion. If I happen to be in Baytown when the planning team is meeting, it would be fun to stop by.
