After graduation I joined the Navy.  I went through several schools including electrical, electronics and nuclear power submarine school.  I got to visit many places in the U.S. and the far east.  After the Navy I married a beautiful lady, Lela Haven, and we have 2 great kids, Kimberly (39) and Richard (37).  After many years of marriage we grew apart and I was single for 1 ½ years before finding another wonderful lady.  We have been married for 14 years.  After the Navy I was associated with Anheuser Busch (Budweiser) for 23 years before I retired at age 55.  I got bored so I went to work at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston.  I retired again at age 62.  Since then we have traveled a lot.  When I am at home, I volunteer mytime and talent to repair homes for the very old or indigent people.  I am still in good health with no known problems.  We have a 1953 Olds 98 hardtop that I drive egery morning to the League City Bank where I have coffee with the ‘boys”, and we take to car shows.

After high school, I attended Lon Morris Junior College, Jacksonville, TX., for two years.  After graduating, I married a man who worked for Texas Eastern Transmission Corp., and we lived in Baytown, but he was subject to
transfer, and we relocated several times.  Eventually, we were transferred to Houston, and chose to live in Baytown again.  Since my parents were here and many friends as well, it was a good decision.  We are now divorced, and I have continued to live in Baytown.
I had three children and was a stay-at-home mom until they were older.  After working as a legal secretary for several years, I then went to work for Exxon Company in 1980 and retired from Exxon in 2000.  It was difficult for me to slow down, and six months later, I went back to work for ExxonMobil two days a week, working in Public Affairs, coordinating the tour program.  It is just right for me.  They are two busy days, and in volunteering for one charitable organization, working in my church, and spending time with my children and three grandchildren, I don’t slow down much.
Thank you to the reunion committee for all your hard work.  It takes a lot of time and effort, and you are very much appreciated.

(D) Mary Nan Carter Redmond 2000
After graduation, I attended Lee College and went to work for Humble Oil & Refining Company.  I then transferred to the University of Texas in Austin and worked in the Law School.  I got my B.Sc. degree from the University of Houston.  I taught school at Jesse Jones High School in Houston before leaving for London on the Queen Mary to visit my brother and his wife, John and Sandra, and to work for Esso Petroleum Company, Ltd.  I spent three consecutive months touring the Continent, and returned to England to work for Esso Petroleum again.  I made so many trips across the Channel that I became a prime suspect for smuggling and was searched every crossing.  Of course, I was always clean!  When I left England, I taught school in Bitburg, Germany, at the USAF Base where I met my husband, Tom, who was in the Royal Air Force.  We had one child, Sandra (God gave me quality, not quantity).  We returned to the States and I got my MEd degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Houston.  I taught at North Shore Senior High School in Galena Park, San Jacinto College North and Lee College for a total of 19 years.  After my divorce, I again went to work for Exxon Company, for the fifth time (making a total of 21.5 years) and where I am still employed, though will be retiring this summer.  My plans are to do volunteer work at the Baytown Rehabilitation Center or the Opportunity Center.
My family consists of my daughter and a wonderful son-in-law (who can fix anything), two grandkidss, and my miniature schnauzer, Heidi.  I have had and exciting, fun 40 years.  Given the opportunity, I wouldn’t change anything.  Life has been good to me and I have enjoyed the trip.
