I’m not going back 45 years…Trying to remember last week is about all I can tackle at the moment.  I have been at the currant address since January, 1986.  My wonderful husband, Sam, died February 1997.  Most of my time now is spent helping out my parents and mother-in-law.  Whenever I can get away, I travel with a group of retirees from DuPont.  Sorry I cannot attend the reunion.  Maybe next time

From graduation from REL to 1963 I played Susie Happy Homemaker, wife, mother and worked as a secretary.  In 1963, my husband was transferred to Lubbock, Texas and I decided to enroll in one IBM course at Texas Tech, and then return to the business world.  That one course changed the course of my life and I still haven’t returned to the business world.  College studies were enjoyable and addictive and I earned a BS in Education, ME (double major - teaching mentally retarded and brain injured children.)  I was frantically pursuing my Ed.D and one night threw all the research for my dissertation into the trash and stopped doctoral study.  Later, I went to the University of Texas and earned certification to teach visually impaired (blind) children.  I also earned my Braille Transcriber’s certification from the Library of Congress in Washington,D.C. Last summer, I attended Stephen F. Austin University for Orientation and Mobility (can travel) certification.  I’ve taught in public schools since earning BS, with the exception of one year when I took a leave of absence and worked as a missionary teacher at an orphanage in Baja.  Currently, I teach Braille for a school district outside Ft. Worth.  In June, 1984, our son was killed in a hit and run accident and Kenneth (my high school love) and I divorced.  I’ve dabbled into acting in community theater and after private voice lessons, sang in several operas at the junior college.  Once I had the lead female role. (Remember? I never made the Horace Mann Jr. High Choir!!)  I do a lot of volunteer work for the resale shop which benefits the battered women’s shelter and also for an animal shelter with a no kill policy.  In spite of ups and downs, life has been good to me. Seems there are more ups than downs.
(D) Yvonne Erwin Stewart (Claude) 1996
As of 1994: I married before graduation and was married to my first husband for 21 years.  I have 2 sons and 1 granddaughter from that marriage.  Pasadena, TX has been my home since 1959.
It was best for the boys for me to wait until they were in school to pursue my career.  At that time, I began attending college-studying business.  After college, I worked for the Pasadena school system at Sam Rayburn High School. From there, I moved up to a savings and loan company where I worked until I was offered a position with Champion International Corporation at their paper mill in Pasadena.
After working in several different departments in a number of positions at Champion, I was promoted to the position of customer service coordinator, handling all complaints on paper produced at the Pasadena Mill.  Simpson Paper Co. purchased the mill from Champion, so I worked for Simpson for almost five years before deciding to retire April 1, 1991.  I was vested with Champion, so I am now retired from both companies.
About a year after I began working for Champion, I was divorced and single for about four and one-half years. I married Claude Stewart 15 years ago.  Traveling is our favorite pastime.  We have traveled extensively throughout the United States (including Hawaii), Europe, the Orient, and the Bahamas.
